These 3 Days With Gerry Lopez Will Be a Surfing Yogi’s Dream

The Inertia

He earned the name Mr. Pipeline because well, Gerry Lopez is likely the first name you associate with taming surfing’s wildest beast. And if you ask how and why he’s been able to dance so gracefully with surfing’s most prolific left, he’ll tell you there was a healthy balance of yoga and meditation mixed in with his surfing.

It’s led to the once a year, highly anticipated and highly demanded retreat hosted by the man himself and built on the components of surf, yoga, and that wave he loves so much. For three days he’ll explore the island with his guests, giving them a tour of some of his favorite places along the North Shore through SUP excursions, surf sessions and yoga and meditation. “Surfing teaches you to be in the moment spontaneously,” Gerry says. “Go with the flow smoothly. That’s how you get the most of the wave and it’s also how you get the most out of life.”

For those three days just 20 Turtle Bay guests will get to hang with Gerry, have dinner, talk story, and soak up all they can from the man himself. Imagine it. Three full days with Mr. Pipeline, the Zen Master himself, as your very own best friend. A typical day, according to the Turtle Bay Resort site, will look like this:

7am – Yoga Stretch to start the day
6:30-8:30am – Kula Breakfast Buffet
9:30am – Surf/SUP coaching and instruction with Gerry Lopez
1pm – Lunch
2pm – Offsite excursion with host Gerry
5-6:30pm – Evening Yin class w/ meditation
7pm – Enjoy delightful island cuisine at one of our signature restaurants
8pm – Talk Story at Surfer, the Bar
